Default Using Timesheets to Update Task Progress

I am working with a customer who wants to utilize their timesheet data to update task progress. I am having difficulties setting this up to get it to flow back through to the project plan in PS2007. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Darrell,
How are you trying to get the data back into the project plan?

If you are trying to do it manually, are the timesheets populated with the user's assignments? If not, the import timesheet button will not work.

If you are trying to automate the flow of information, there is a solution starter available that presents examples on how to do this.

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I checked the timesheet population and then I was able to import this back into the task update. However, that update is not flowing back to the project manager who assigned the task.

Darrell,

Great! Now, we are one step closer to solving your issue.

The update will not be sent to the status manager simply by virtue of it being imported from the timesheet. After you execute the import, tasks listed in My Tasks that recieved timesheet information should have a reddish-orange exclamation point to the right of the task. If you hover over this icon, the tooltip should say "Update has not been submitted".

This is because the import only imports the data -- it does not submit the update on your behalf. This gives you an opportunity to modify the imported information if you so desire. To actually submit the update, you must still select the tasks you wish to submit and submit the updates using the "Submit Selected" button on the My Tasks page.

Note that if "Time entry by Timesheet only" is selected in Task Settings and Display, you will not be able to change the imported data. However, you must still submit manually. Another thing to keep in mind is that users can import a timesheet regardless of its approval status -- be sure to take this into account when designing your processes.

By the way, welcome to the EPMFAQ Forums

Thanks Steve. I am sure glad I found this forum! I have that problem resolved now, but I still have a couple more outstanding issues to which I cannot seem to find answers in the documentation.

One is the default status manager is a service account and I seem to have to add the Status Manager column and manually change each task to get the task update directed to the correct individual.

The other problem, is I have a couple of accounts that will not display any task assignments. I can assign a task to the individual, but when I log in under that account, it says that I have no tasks.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Darrell

Darrell,

I'm glad I was able to help. Thank you for joining the forums!

I've spawned off two seperate threads to keep your individual questions separated.

The one dealing with your Status Manager question is here, and the one regarding tasks not showing on a resource's My Tasks page is here.
