Couple of question re: (default) project attributes

I´m in the process of implementing PS 2007 at a customer site and got the following questions regarding the (default) attributes of activities/proposals/projects in PWA:

• It looks like the maximum size of a custom text attribute is limitted (customer reported that it can contain no more than 255 chars). On the otherhand the default Description attribute seems to be able to contain more characters but can not be made visible using a custom view. Can the default limit for custom text attributes be altered OR (preferrable) how can the Description attribute be added to views.
  
• If you make a custom attribute of the type: duration, it defaults to "days". Can this be changed?
