I wouldn't say that "nothing" works, but I agree that there are some issues with the product's RTM version. Microsoft could certainly have done better with communicating some things, as you've found with the "stand-alone" install.

However, don't lose faith. Even though it has some issues, this product is a significant step forward from 2003. Microsoft is working extremely hard to resolve the issues in the product, along with working on P14 -- which looks like it will have some truly amazing advancements.
