If you change a project's tracking method (on a server that allows you to do so), that project must be republished for the My Tasks page to display in accordance with the new selection. Furthermore, if you change the server's tracking method (on a server that does not), you will need to republish all projects.
"Actual work done and work remaining" is entered as a total for the assignment. If I recall correctly, there is no "by day" input mechanism with this tracking method. If you are looking for the type of time entry grid that Project Server 2007 has, this does not exist in Project Server 2007 RTM.
However, SP1 does provide this functionality in a form that is somewhat different than 2003's implementation.
To enable this (only if you have SP1):
- Log into PWA as an Administrator
- Click the My Tasks link in the Quick Launch menu.
- On the My Tasks page, click the Site Actions andselect the Edit Page item.
- In the My Tasks web part, click the Edit pick list and select the Modify Shared Web Part item.
- In the My Tasks sidepane on the right, expand the Project Web Access section.
- In the Project Web Access section of the sidepane, select the "Hours per day" option.
- In the My Tasks sidepane, click the OK button.
- Click the Exit Edit Mode button in the upper right corner of the My Tasks page.
The server will display a grid of 7 days. The current day will be "centered" in this grid, with three days in either direction. This means that you will have to train your users to put their time in on a daily basis, as they will not be able to enter Monday's time on a Friday.
Alternatively, if you set the Project's tracking method to "Hours of work done per period", you can edit the details of each assignment and enter the time in a grid there. However, this is a really inconvenient way to enter the information, which is why Microsoft made the change in SP1.
You can also enter the information into the timesheet. If the tracking type on the project (or the server, as the case may be) is "Hours of work done per period", upon import the information will be populated into the correct day on the task.
